Spring in Kiev

They assure me that this is Spring. I say, "It looks like winter", and they say, "You should have seen it last week". I guess by "spring" they mean that the snow starts to melt.

Researching land issues in Bosnia

I believe in detailed and thorough research.

A coffee in Sarajevo (Sunday afternoon)

Lots of interesting places in the old part of Sarajevo, including this coffee shop. Very stylish, and good coffee too. Here are Rumiana and Anna, and Gerhardt - our "team" for the week. And a shot of me trying to look like a murderous, attacking type person (and failing miserably, yet again).

Snowy Sarajevo

Mid-March is a bit late for snow, but it is nice all the same. This shot shows one of the mountains around Sarajevo - the town is in a narrow valley - and is taken outside the World Bank office on a rather grey Sunday morning after coffee. The new shopping centre (due to open on 2 April) is to the right - very exciting!

Central Station, Baku, Aerbaijan

I am very keen on stations and visit the main one in every capital city. Sometimes they are great (Budapest, London, Paris, Sydney, Washington DC) and other times disappointing or looking rather sad (Buenos Aires, Belgrade, Istanbul, Penn in NY), but usually interesting. And certainly the place to see down and out souls. Here are some shots of Baku's old main railway station - strong Islamic architectural influence, as you can. And a nice shot of me and the president. Do I look presidential?

Happy International Women's Day from Baku, Azerbaijan

Look at these flowers! Nice way to celebrate. Also, as you can see, the Azeris, like just about everyone else in the countries where I work, know only one colour for winter clothes: black.
